Wonderful wheatgrass

Wheatgrass. I know what you all are thinking! I did too. In fact, even though I have been growing it all year, I confess I was not drinking it. Well here in Puerto Rico I am living, eating, breathing wheatgrass and am actually starting to like it (I even rub the juice all over my face). There are incredible benefits to WG..which I will share in a sec.

But before I loose you because the thought of wheatgrass makes you sick, I want to tell you a little story. Lance got in a car accident a few days before coming here. It was kind of a freak accident, a major malfunction of the car, the air bags went off and our car got totaled (but that’s not the story I wanted to tell you). He had these open wounds on his hands from the airbags and they were not healing and here at our little educational institute, they tell you to put wheat grass on everything. So I put some on his open wounds, and in a few hours they were practically healed. I swear!! It was like voodoo. We were both in shock.

Cut too Lance and Nance drinking wheatgrass like there’s no tomorrow…

OK now that you are all running out and getting your wheatgrass…let me tell you a few tips:

I know my facial expression isn't exactly screaming "delicious" but really it's not that bad!

1) The best thing I learned about WG to make it easier to swallow is this: Do not shoot the WG straight back like a tequila shot. Keep it in your mouth and mix with your salvia for at least 30 seconds. Now I know this might sound unbearable to some of you but try it! This breaks down the enzymes (enzymes are my new best friend!) and makes the taste much milder and way easier to swallow. So much easier than shooting it back and burping WG all day.

2) Start with a 1/2 ounce to 1 ounce and you can work yourself up to 1 1/2 to 2 ounces…a little goes a long way.  We are doing a lot here but it really only takes a little to reap all the benefits.

3) Among the many benefits of WG, I am going to list a few that stand out:

  • The enzymes from WG (post is to come about how important enzymes are) and the amino acids can protect us from carcinogens like no other food or medicine!!
  • WG juice is 70% chlorophyll (see past post on cholophyll for all the amazing benefits) but here are a few more:
  • Chlorophyll (WG) rebuilds the bloodstream
  • Liquid chlorophyll gets into the tissues and helps them to become alkaline
  • Science has proven that chlorophyll stops the growth of unfriendly bacteria
  • Chlorophyll neutralizes toxins in the body, helps balance the liver, improves blood sugar problems, improves digestion, can reduce high blood pressure, removes heavy metals and can eliminate constipation and if that didn’t convince you, it also keeps hair from greying!!
  • It is oxygen-rich. The brain and all body tissues function at an optimal level in a highly oxygenated environment.

Every morning we wake up to these bags of WG with our names on it. This is how much we drink in a day here in PR (this is a lot more than 1-2oz!) If you had told me this is how much WG I was going to be doing, I might not have come.

So listen, If I can do it, you can do it! Remember this is your body, your health, your life! I am not saying do this every day but give it a try…do it for one week out of every month. What do you have to loose? I can promise you this is better than 95% of the things you are putting in your body.

  1. I’m sold. I’m off to go buy some WG. How do you make it drinkable? You look happy and fabulous. XOXO

  2. When I was pregnant with my 2nd kid, I did a shot of wheatgrass every day until my 7 or 8th month- then, got totally repulsed by the smell and taste- it was crazy! I couldn’t even get near the stuff without gagging- I must have overdone it or something…Anyway, I haven’t touched wheatgrass since. BUT, for you Nancy- I will try it again—honestly!!

  3. Hi Nancy and Lance,
let me begin by saying how fantastic and relaxed and healthy you both look!
second I used to drink WG daily and then I over did it and I could not even smell it with out wanting throw up..
and after reading your blog I am willing to give it a try!
    enjoy enjoy enjoy PR!

  4. I was just at the Peace Tree juice bar in Moab and thought of you. They had a poster that listed”100 great things about Wheat Grass”. One of the things it said was if you swish it around your mouth it will clean your teeth and help prevent tooth decay. It also said that it will help with tooth aches and heal wounds. I was thinking that was a bit extreme but I guess not. 🙂
I look forward to hearing more about your adventures.

    • My teeth have never felt cleaner after drinking/swishing 2 oz 2x/day of wheatgrass. Also healed a gum infection in 1 day!! Powerful stuff!!

    • No it’s not extreme at all. People really do use wheatgrass for tooth aches and fresh breath. They use if for so much more than I posted. I am a believer!

  5. Did you know if you massage WG onto your thighs and ass, cellulite totally disappears. Actually I don’t know if that’s true – but I’ll report BACK!!
I am IN!! Wheatgrass has somehow stayed off my radar – can I use my juicer or does it have to be the cranky one? LLV is the best, truly the Best. Thank you for generously improving my health, spiritual and physical. I need a face to face one of these days. I miss you. LOADSOFLOVE to you in PR, Gentrys.

  6. LG & Nancy,

You guys continue to inspire and amaze me. I am sending you both love and light every day. Thanks for sharing your journey. I’m constantly reminded to not sweat the small stuff. Much love.

  7. Cousin Lance! I had no idea you had a blog 🙂 I just started my juicing career a few months ago and I love it. I still have not tried the wheat grass but you convinced me to give it a shot! Hope all is well and we love ya down here in Austin!

  8. This educational institute looks amazing!! And so do you both-glad you are down there in wonderful Puerto Rico learning even more about health and healing and sharing the info.

I keep thoughts of how important wheat grass is in the back of my mind however since I also keep the memories of feeling like a cow burping grass for hours, I resist it. All you say is so true and I want to try again-I think I will have to grow as there aren’t many places if any at all here that have wheat grass shots.

I will check out your links for juicers and give it a go! Fresh clearly is best but what are your thoughts on other forms that you can get through vitacost (for example) is there value there?

    much love to you both!!!

    • Sherri,
Nothing is better than the real deal in my opinion. I am not too familiar with vitacost but I think there is a real question about how much of supplements actually get absorbed. My dad who was a radiologist said he used to see tons of pills floating around in patient’s x-rays. I saw go for the wheatgrass. It can not be replaced my supplements!

Also growing wheat grass is easy. I will do a post on it if you want to know how. And try the holding it in your mouth for 30 seconds, I promise this makes it way easier to digest and you will not stay with you the whole day.

      Give it a try!

      • Thanks Nance!

I am currently using a powder version of WG until we get to growing which will be after our summer travels. And, even with the powder, I already can tell a difference with my digestion. I’ve also been testing my acid/alkalinity and am much more alkaline than before especially with using the handy chart Lance posted as a guide. I had a fairly healthy diet but did hover over in the acidic end of things.

I am really interested in hearing about your WG growing techniques when you have a chance.

We will be in Boulder again this summer and I hope to see you if possible. There used to be a few places in Boulder to get a WG shot so looking forward to having some pure juice!

  9. Just back from 3 weeks at Hippocrates…
The only way I kept the wheatgrass down was to follow with a quick suck on a lime or lemon wedge. Literally like a shot. 🙂
Folks at Hippocrates were putting poultices of wheatgrass on everything and also diluting 50/50 with water, straining and doing eye baths in an eyecup for every eye issue imaginable!! The results were amazing. Yes! Like Voodoo!! Would live to share experiences!!
    Much love and gratitude!! Linda

    • Hey Linda,
Yes they taught us about the eye bath too. Did they teach you to hold the wheatgrass in your mouth and literally “chew it?” We did a lot of other things with WG as I am sure you did too. Would love to get together sometime and swap stories.
      xo Nancy

      • Yes. We swished and chewed and then I followed with the suck of lemon. And yes, we did do other things with the wheatgrass too. 😉 That’s a whole other post…
I would so love to get together and share and inspire. Looking for community to stay on this path…

  10. Very informative article, I too started cycling on Wheatgrass not too long ago and the benefits have been nothing short of awesome, hears to eternal youth 😉
